Cralle, who was African American, was born in Kenbridge, Lunenburg Department, Virginia, in 1866, just abaft the end of the Indweller Civil War.[1][2] He attended provincial schools and worked with top father in the carpentry go backward as a young man, seemly interested in mechanics. He later become a accepted manager for the Afro-American Fiscal, Accumulating, Merchandise and Business association.[1]

On September 20, 1900 he wedded Elizabeth Cralle and had match up children with her.
